TURN ON THE ENGLISH CAPTIONS BEFORE YOU WATCH THE FILM “Our Streets - Our Stories” is a short documentary about Donga, one of Nairobi’s 60,000 street children and one of the few who got a second chance to turn his life around. Donga grew up on the streets, without any formal education or role models to follow. However, after begging, hustling and stealing for years, his life changed when he joined Nai Nami, a social enterprise established by Gianmarco Marinello. Nai Nami’s approach is innovative and unique: we harness the street skills and life stories of street children, empowering them to create value for society. This sustainable business model enabled Donga and six other street children to showcase their life stories and monetize their street skills, by working as storyteller guides on an inspiring city tour in downtown Nairobi (not in the slums). Tourists have the chance to experience Nairobi through the eyes of former street children and our guides have a full-time job, a stable income and an interface to connect with people from all over the world. We believe that disadvantaged youth everywhere deserve the chance to a better future. We hope this film inspires you to expand on our approach and take it further. This short film is an adaptation of Malawian writer Shadreck Chikoti's book named 'Azotus The Kigndom'. It is based in the year 2023 and focuses on Dr. Tina; a rebel to the New World order. It is Abubakar Majid's debut film as a director.

Suave is a Kenyan brand of bags and accessories, that combines different elements of second hand clothing and turns them into bright and unique pieces. This film by independent filmmaker Joash Omondi celebrates Nairobi; a city that gave birth to Suave and showcases the parallels between the spirit of its young people and the bold colours that have come to exemplify the brand. Featuring poetry by Abu Sense.

This film was researched, written, produced and directed by Abubakar Majid. Abu is a member of COPA90’s Creators Network, which comprises all of COPA90’s presenters and contributors. The fate of the African footballer playing in Africa, more often than not, comes with an added load of responsibility. Varees played football in Europe but opted to change the narrative of foreign exported talent by quitting and returning to Kenya to continue with his magic on the pitch. Originally from Uganda, this film showcases the journey from his homeland to Europe and back to Kenya. Abu Majid sits down with the player to find what influenced his return, how settled he is in the Kenyan football system and why he chose East Africa over the more established West African region where football is a religion. His survival is only guaranteed by the extra jobs Varees manages to secure. Training drills here, only help boost bodies of budding footballers, who some, unfortunately, never get to actualise their hopes of regular participation in matches or decent wages.
